Constitution Day Celebrated at Millersville

Constitution Day Activities at Millersville University

Constitution Day is being celebrated on September 17 this year across the U.S.  In 2005 the U.S. Department of Education released a “Notice of Implementation,” announcing that all educational institutions receiving federal funding must provide an educational program pertaining to the United States Constitution on or near September 17 each year.   Millersville will have the following events September 15-17 on campus to honor the constitution:

Monday, September 15
Pizza, Policy & Politics
Lehr Ballroom, Gordinier Hall 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Faculty, staff and students are invited to meet and converse with former members of congress; the Honorable William Goodling (R) Pa., and the Honorable Carlos Antonio Romero-Barceló (D) Puerto Rico.  There will be voter registration as well.

September 15 and 16
Congress to Campus
The Congress to Campus Program, founded in 1976 will be coming to Millersville for the first time. The program addresses several aspects of civic learning and engagement deficit among the country’s college-age young people – combining traditional educational content with a strong message about public service.  Throughout both days, the Honorable William Goodling (R) Pa., and the Honorable Carlos Antonio Romero-Barceló (D) Puerto Rico will be attending classes and meeting with students.

September 16
Home Rule: A Constitution for Lancaster County
Multi-purpose room, Student Memorial Center 7 p.m.
What is home rule and what will it mean for Lancaster County?  Dr. Victor DeSantis, dean of graduate studies at Millersville University, will conduct a public forum with the Lancaster County Government Study Commission. There will be a question and answer session following the presentation.  This event is free and open to the public.

September 17
Movie:  Chicago 10
Lyte Auditorium, 7:30 p.m.
CHICAGO 10 presents contemporary history with a forced perspective, mixing bold and original animation with extraordinary archival footage that explores the build-up to and unraveling of the Chicago Conspiracy Trial.  Free and Open to the Public.
