Admitted Students; Key Information

You’ve been admitted to the university and now you’re wondering what happens next. In most cases, you’ll receive information from various University departments regarding next steps. Listed here is some information most new students are curious about, along with links to further information that can be found on the web.

Academic Advising – All new students are assigned to an adviser from their major program of study. Part-time and transfer students in need of advisement for class scheduling should contact their academic department secretary for assistance. A list of department contacts can be found here. If you have questions about academic advisement, send an email to: adviser@millersville.edu. (New fulltime freshmen will have their first semester schedule prepared for them – see the section titled Scheduling Classes.)

Aim for Success - Aim for Success students begin their college experience with a five-week summer enrichment program designed to ease students’ transition into college and strengthen skills in reading, writing, and oral communication. Students will be contacted by the Aim for Success office in March and April to schedule required placement testing. More information about the program can be found here.

Billing Information - The Bursar’s Office is responsible for university billing. Fall semester bills are generated in mid-to-late July (shortly after tuition is announced by the State). Spring bills are mailed the week of Thanksgiving. For further information including meal plans, tuition and fee costs, due dates and payment plans, visit the Bursar’s web page.

Changing Your Information (i.e. major, housing status, address) – Prior to the start of the semester, most changes are handled through the Admissions Office. Requests to change any information should be made in writing – email is fine. Once the change is acted upon, you will receive confirmation by mail. Our email address is: admissions@millersville.edu.

Financial Aid - We recommend that each student complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 15. In order to meet the deadline, you can estimate your income information if your federal tax return has not yet been completed. Visit this site for answers to frequently asked questions. Here is a calendar that can keep you on track with the financial aid process.

Housing - Beginning in the spring semester, the Housing Office (717-872-3162) sends information to all on-campus students who have submitted their confirmation. General information about resident life can be found here.

New Student Forms - We need to collect some more information from you that is used by a variety of offices to improve your Millersville experience. Be sure to complete the Health Information forms that are required of new students. All forms are available on your student portal. You will be taken to a new screen that will ask your student ID number. Once you sign onto the portal, the first thing you should see is a channel with the heading "New Student Forms". Each form includes instructions and contact information.

Orientation – New student orientation takes place just before the start of the semester. The Orientation Office will send a packet of information to students in May or June. More information can be found on the Orientation Website, or email your question to: orientation@millersville.edu.

Placement Testing – All new freshmen and many transfer students are required to take at least one placement test. Certain majors and courses require placement testing before course registration. General placement tests are administered in the following subject areas: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Foreign Languages (French, German & Spanish). More information about placement testing is available here. Be sure to scroll to the bottom for information about specific subject examinations. You will be notified when it is time to register for the examinations.

Parking Permits – In general, resident students who have completed fewer than 30 credits will not be issued a parking permit. If you have questions regarding parking, contact the University Police, Parking Division by email or in person.

Scheduling Classes – New fulltime freshmen will have class schedules prepared for them by the Registrar’s Office. They are permitted to change their schedules during the first week of classes. All other students (part-time and transfers) should refer to the Registration Schedule for information regarding access to class scheduling. Additional information about registering for classes will be sent to you by the Registrar’s Office, including directions for using MAX (the University’s on-line registration system). You may email questions to the Registrar’s Office at registrar@millersville.edu.

Scholarships - All new fall freshmen are considered for scholarships based on academic merit. You can not apply for scholarship consideration; you will be contacted if you qualify. Students who are academically eligible for consideration will be identified by the admissions office and may be asked to submit additional information. Scholarships are limited and awarded on a rolling basis. Students who are admitted to the University after February 15 are not considered for scholarships, nor are students who start in the spring.
