BRITTINGHAM'S CAREER DAY HELPS BLOOMSBURG DOWN MILLERSVILLE, 42-28

October 20, 2007, Millersville, Pa. – Running back Jamar Brittingham broke Bloomsburg's career yards rushing record Saturday as the Huskies went on to defeat Millersville, 42-28, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game at Redman Stadium.

Brittingham found the end zone four times, capped off by an 81-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Huskies back in front by 21 points. He carried the ball 22 times for 257 yards and the four scores.

Brittingham got the Huskie offense started by carrying the ball on all four plays of their opening drive and capping it off with a 19-yard touchdown run. The four-play, 44 yard, drive lasted just 1:56 and put Bloomsburg ahead 7-0 at 5:03 into the first quarter.

Bloomsburg would strike again early in the second quarter when quarterback Dan Latorre hit wide receiver Brahin Bilal for a 31-yard touchdown pass to complete a seven-play, 71-yard drive.

Millersville would have an answer on their next possession when quarterback Jamal Smith (fr. Camp Hill/Trinity) found wide receiver Andrew Tischbein (jr. Hummelstown/Hershey) for a 50-yard touchdown pass, cutting Bloomsburg's lead to seven (14-7). The touchdown was Tischbein's first of the season. He finished the day with five catches for 95-yards and the touchdown.

On Bloomsburg's ensuing possession, Brittingham would be given the ball four more times including a one-yard touchdown run to extend the lead back to 14 (21-7).

The offensive shootout would continue with Millersville using a seven-play, 67-yard scoring drive to bring themselves back within one possession.

The Marauders used five rushing plays, including a 26-yard run by Smith down to the Huskie two yard line to set up Smith's first of two rushing touchdowns on the day. After the initial attempt by running back Brad Lantz (so. Towanda/Towanda) was unsuccessful, Smith took the ball in for the score. Smith finished the day carrying the ball 16 times for 65-yards. He also racked up 174-yards and a touchdown through the air on 10-21 passing.

Bloomsburg scored the fifth touchdown of the quarter and third for the Huskies on their next possession. Using back-to-back pass plays to Bilal of 22 and nine yards, Bloomsburg set up Brittingham for his third touchdown of the day from 16-yards out to provide the halftime score of 28-14.

Millersville kicker John Banzhoff (so. Lancaster/McCaskey) missed a 52-yard field goal try just before the half that would have cut the Huskie lead to 11.

Bloomsburg would receive first in the second half and score on their fourth consecutive possession on a Josh Heck seven-yard run to extend their lead by 21 (35-14).

Following a three and out by Millersville, Latorre would be intercepted by defensive back Brandon Shelton (sr. New Oxford/Gettysburg Area) at the 21-yard line of Bloomsburg. Shelton took the interception in for the quick score to give the Marauders new life. The pick was his team-leading third of the season. Shelton did it all for the Marauder defense racking up 5 tackles, a tackle for a loss, a forced fumble, a pass break up and the interception.

Brittingham, however, gave the Huskies the answer they needed scoring his fourth touchdown of the day on an 81-yard run on their second play of the ensuing drive.

Millersville would get a one-yard touchdown run by Smith late in the fourth quarter to crawl within 14 (42-28), but it was too little too late for the Marauders as they fell by that final score.

The Huskies would finish the day with 496-yards of total offense, 397 of which came on the ground.

Wide Receiver Jimmie Cotton (fr. Sharon Hill/Malvern Prep) helped spark the Marauder offense several times catching four balls for 71-yards and carrying it five times for 35-yards.

Millersville falls to 2-6 (1-2 PSAC East) for the season. The win keeps Bloomsburg in the hunt for the Eastern division crown improving them to 4-3 (2-1 PSAC East) overall.

The Marauders will travel to Cheney next Saturday for another PSAC Eastern division match-up beginning at 1:00 p.m.
