Faculty - Activities:

 
  • Dr. Patricia S. Hill will be on sabbatical leave on the academic year 2008-2009. Her goals for the leave include:
    • Production of electronic archive of teaching materials for the teaching of courses that integrate the fields of chemistry and art.
    • Chemistry and Art Community of Scholars website developed for the NSF-funded Center for Workshops in the Chemical Sciences.
    • Development of two advanced chemistry and art workshops for college and university faculty to be offered in 2009. One workshop will focus on the use of analytical chemistry in the study of art and artifacts. The other will involve a study abroad experience in Europe.
    • Revision of Dr. Hill’s chemistry and art textbook and laboratory manual and possible commercial publication.
  • Dr. Jeremiah K.N. Mbindyo has published an article that appeared in the refereed Journal Chemical Educator with two MU undergraduate students as co-authors: Jeremiah K.N. Mbindyo, Stephen A. Michaylira, and David M. DeMarco “Stamping Lithography: An Undergraduate Experiment in Nanotechnology.” Chem. Educ., 13, 2008 236-239.
  • Dr. Jeremiah K.N. Mbindyo has published an article in the Journal of Chemical Education with two MU undergraduate student co-authors: Civia A. Katz, Zachary J. Calzola and Jeremiah K.N. Mbindyo “Structure and Solvent Properties of Microemulsions” J. Chem. Ed. , 85, 2008 263-265. CAK is a chemistry alumnus currently pursuing Ph. D. studies at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). ZJC is a chemistry major in the Environmental chemistry option.
  • Dr. Edward Rajaseelan is the co-author of a manuscript that appeared in the refereed journal Organometallics: Dinakar Gnanamgari, Audrey Moores, Edward Rajaseelan and Robert H. Crabtree, "Transfer hydrogenation of Imines and Alkenes Direct Reductive Amination of Aldehydes Catalyzed by Triazole- Derived Iridium(I) Carbene Complexes" Organometallics, 2007, 26, 1226-1230. The bulk of the chemistry was done during his sabbatical at Yale in Dr. Crabtree’s research lab.
  • Dr. Maria V. Schiza is a co-author in a manuscript that appeared in the journal of Nanobiotechnology: B. M. Cullum, H. Li, M. V. Schiza, M. E. Hankus "Characterization of Multilayer-enhanced Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) Substrates and Their Potential for SERS Nanoimaging" Nanobiotechnology, 3, pp.1-11 (2007).
