Counseling Psychologist/Professor; Department Chairperson/Director
Dr. Kelsey Backels is a licensed psychologist who joined the MU faculty in 1991. Dr. Backels received her B.S. in Psychology from Madison College (James Madison University) in 1976, her M.Ed. in Counseling Education from James Madison University in 1978 and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Ball State University in 1991. Her special areas of interest include: eating disorders, anxiety disorders, relationship issues and depression.
Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor/Instructor
John R Baltzer is a certified addictions counselor who joined the MU Faculty in 2005. Mr Baltzer received his B.A. from Mansfield State College in 1975 and his C.A.C. in 1997. He is skilled with chemical dependency and recovery issues and dual diagnosis issues.
Clinical Psychologist/Assistant Professor
Dr. Lisa A. House joined the MU faculty in the fall of 2008. Dr. House received her B.A. in Psychology from Princeton University in 2002, her M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University in 2005 and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University in 2008. Her special areas of interest include: anxiety disorders, depression, substance abuse, and multicultural issues.

Dr. Joseph F. Lynch is a licensed psychologist who joined the MU faculty in 1992. Dr. Lynch received his B.A. in Psychology from Villanova University in 1983, his M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Radford University in 1985 and his Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Virginia in 1989. His special areas of interest include: stress management, relationship issues, depression and self-esteem.
Clinical Psychologist/Associate Professor
Dr. Daniel O'Neill is a licensed psychologist who joined the MU faculty in the spring of 2000. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Haverford College in 1978, and his Psy.D. from Hahnemann University in 1986. He is also a Certified School Psychologist. His special areas of interest include: depression, adult development, family relationships and anxiety disorders.
Counseling Psychologist/Associate Professor
Dr. Kendra J. Saunders is a licensed psychologist who joined the MU faculty in the fall of 2002. She received her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois in 1996, her M.A. in Counseling Psychology (1999) and Ph.D. in Psychology from Texas Tech University in August, 2002. Her special areas of interest and skills include, but are not limited to, women's issues, eating disorders and body image and interpersonal relationship issues.
Administrative Assistant
Mrs. Becky Vickers-Gross is the Center's Administrative Assistant and provides clerical support for the faculty. Mrs. Vickers-Gross joined the MU staff in 1987 and transferred to the Counseling Center staff in 1991. In addition to her duties at the Counseling Center, she is also responsible for scheduling the meeting rooms in Lyle Hall and supervising the student assistants who work at the Information Desk on the first floor of Lyle Hall.
