Chile Now!

Come enjoy exciting travel in Chile while improving your Spanish for a summer that you will never forget!

From an outdoor museum to vineyards, Neruda to Pinochet, this course will explore many topics that make-up modern-day Chile. Among the topics to be discussed are Chilean economics, politics, geography, architecture and literature, including one of the greatest poets in the Spanish language, Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda. We will visit the Pablo Neruda museum in Isla Negra; Santiago, Chile’s capital; and some of the vineyards that constitute one of the main sources of the Chilean economy.

Students will enjoy several workshops on the food and culture of Chile. Prof. Rivera-Hernández will accompany the students and offer instruction in Valparaíso.  Guest speakers from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Valparaíso will offer special classes on local topics and themes. The course can count at the graduate level as Span 525: Advanced Oral Practice and Self-Expression OR Span 589: Current Topics. At the undergraduate level it counts as Span 362: Oral Spanish II OR Span 491: Current Topics.
