About la Universidad de Burgos
The University of Burgos was founded in 1994 after separating from the University of Valladolid, which it had belonged to since 1972. The university currently has about 11,000 students and is divided onto two campuses, the Campus on the river Vena, site of the Higher Polytechnic School, and the Campus of San Amaro (Hospital del Rey) which is home to the rest of the faculties and facilities.
Courses are held on the Campus of San Amaro, within the “Hospital del Rey”, a former hospital for pilgrims on the Saint James' Way, founded in 1195 by Alfonso VIII. The buildings were constructed in pro gothic style. Important reformation and restoration work has been carried out from the 16th century until today. Worthy of note is the Romeros Gate (1526), the Moors Gate (1530) and the Portico of the Church, reformed in 1771. The whole was restored and re-adapted as the Law Faculty and Rectorate.
The University de Burgos presently has four faculties: Faculty of Science, Faculty of Economics and Business Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Humanities and Higher Education, the Higher Polytechnic School and two appointed Schools, Nursing School and Labor Relations School, offering a total of 28 degrees.
The setting of the University de Burgos provides an infrastructure suited to quality education with modern didactic methods (audio-visual equipment, language laboratory, library). It is without doubt a setting, which lends itself to study but at the same time to enjoyment, as we take pleasure in a city, steeped in the past.

The city can be easily reached by car, bus, or by train, making it an ideal location for visits to Madrid and other places of interest.
Burgos is a richly historical city. Traces of its 1,100 years of existence are found on every corner. Students can look into grants such as the Rotary Scholarships which cover expenses, including room and board, tuition, and airfare. This scholarship form must be completed one to one-and-one-half years in advance and is available from any Rotary Club. Another option is to research online or stop by our office for additional opportunities. Please see Financial Considerations for more information.
Dates
Students may choose to study abroad at the University of Burgos either for a semester or for a full academic year. The academic calendar is divided in two semesters (cuatrimestres). The first semester begins the first week of October and continues until early or middle February. Classes continue until the February exam session has ended. First semester exams take place in early-mid February. The second semester lasts from early-mid February until the end of June. Classes end in late May or early June. The month of June is entirely devoted to second-semester/full-year exams. Fall semester study is only for students not returning to MU for the spring semester.
Accommodation
Room and board is separate and will be arranged with the assistance of the University de Burgos. Students have several options: campus dormitory (if staying for the entire year); apartments, private room organized by the Catholic Church; or home stays.
Eligibility
Most students who study abroad are traditionally juniors. However, students can and do study abroad anytime after they have completed 24 credits. Students should complete an application to study abroad one semester before wishing to go abroad. Please stop by the Office of Global Education & Partnerships to pick up an application and ask about deadlines. A minimum of a 2.0 GPA, demonstration of at least 202 level Spanish proficiency, an official transcript and two letters of recommendation from professors from your home university are also required. The Director of Global Education & Partnerships will then interview students and a selection will be made shortly after the interviews are completed.
