Latino Studies Student Activities

Our students are very active in Latino social and academic events.

The Latino Celebration Committee coordinates Latino-centered events throughout the academic year. These activities are open to the public. For a schedule of events, please see the Millersville University calendar.

The Society on Latino Affairs (SOLA) is a Millersville University student organization that fosters an understanding of Latino issues and provides a social gathering place for individuals with an affinity for Latinos. In the past, they have sponsored salsa dance lessons, a Latino food and music cultural activity, and a car show. The group meets every Tuesday night at 9:15 pm in the SMC room 161. Their adviser is Mr. Hiram Martinez.

Students enrolled in the minor have also presented their research at university workshops and conferences. A sample of student work is available for review in the Latino/a Studies office, Somerset 200.

The minor program also hires a student assistant each year. The position is great work experience for someone with strong organizational, inter-personal, and bilingual (English/Spanish) skills. For more information on this part-time position, please contact the Director of Latino/a studies.
