Greek Chapter Assessment Tool

In the quest to create and maintain excellence in our Greek Community, we will be working with the Greek Chapter Assessment Tool (GCAT). The GCAT is a generalized programming model that will help all of us better realize areas of strength and challenge for each chapter. The GCAT is a guideline for the programming and development that should be occuring in each of our organizations. In many cases you will find, that your chapters already meet many of the requirements with their current activities and programs. If not, then please take some time to plan with your chapter, how it will meet the criteria.

In the GCAT, there are six categories in which each chapter needs to perform to minimum levels in order to receive a satisfactory rating. Our goal is two-fold: we would like to have every chapter achieving excellence, and if that is not the case, we would like to pinpoint the areas in which we can supposrt the chapter in achieving such excellence. In each category, it is listed as to what specifically the chapter will receive points for, and how the report can be formatted. The format should just follow the outline of each category. Each chapter will be provided with copies of completed GCAT reports so that you will be able to better see the format and looks of the reports.

Each chapter is required to participate in the GCAT process. Chapters not participating will lose their recognition on campus. The GCAT process is relatively simple, and involves completing a report that lists/describes the activities and programming that the chapter has done, in a specified format,; and, the president and vice president of the chapter meeting with the GCAT board, which will be comprised of representatives who are to be determined. The board will use the written report to assess whether the chapter is performing to satisfactory levels in each of the six categories, and will then provide an overall ranking for the chapter. Chapters who do not participate in the GCAT process, or who are ranked less than satisfactory overall will face judicial sanctions and may lose their recognition.

The GCAT process will take place each semester in February. I would encourage your chapter to begin saving and documenting the programming and activities that your chapter does. It will be much easier to complete the reports if you have this information on hand.

The GCAT is designed to help each chapter continually improve and focus efforts to provide their members with experiences and skills that will benefit them. The GCAT process will also help us, as a Greek community, provide substantial evidence to the campus and other constituents about the many great things each chapter does. If you have questions, or would like to discuss the GCAT process, please feel free to talk to the Coordinator of Greek Life.
