REQUIREMENTS FOR ACADEMIC MINOR IN COACHING

Regulations Governing Minor Course Work:

  • There shall be a minimum of 18.0 credit hours with a minimum Millersville QPA of 2.0
  • Only one course which does not count toward a major may be counted toward a minor in the same discipline.
  • Courses that count toward a minor are also eligible to be used to satisfy the current University-wide General Education requirements subject to normal distribution requirements.
  • At least two courses should be at the upper-division level (300-400). Exceptions may be requested upon evidence of program depth.
  • No course needed for the minor may be Pass-Fail.
  • One-half or more of the work required for the minor must be completed at Millersville University.

  • WSSD 311 First Aid and CPR (3.0 credits)
  • WSSD 450 Kinesiological and Physiological Foundations of Coaching (3.0 Credits)
  • WSSD 480 Theory and Techniques of Coaching (3.0 credits)
  • WSSD 483 Medical-Legal Aspects of Coaching (3.0 Credits)

Choose One of the Following (3.0 Credits):

  • WSSD 484 Psychological-Social Foundations (3.0 Credits)
  • WSSD 486 Topics: Performance Enhancement Techniques (3.0 Credits)
  • WSSD 482: Coaching Effectiveness (3.0 Credits)
  • WSSD 582: Sport Psychology (3.0 Credits)

Choose One of the Following Electives (3.0 Credits):

  • WSSD 350 Sport in America (W) (3.0 Credits)
  • WSSD 452 Nutrition for Performance Enhancement(3.0 Credits)
  • WSSD 482: Coaching Effectiveness (3.0 Credits)
  • WSSD 486 Topics: Performance Enhancement Techniques(3.0 Credits)

Allowable Substitutions:

  • WSSD 591 Exercise Physiology (3.0 Credits) (for WSSD 450)
